Everlasting Father is the fourth name Isaiah gave the Child who is born.
His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor,
Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
The Hebrew is Avi-Ad
—
Father of Eternity,
Father of the Age to Come.
It does not confuse the Son with the Father who sent Him.
It names the Son as the royal source of unending life for His people.
Of the increase of His government and of peace there will be no end.
Kings in Israel could be called father of the nation. Job was a father to the needy. Isaiah’s title is heavier than that. Ad is perpetuity, the lasting age. The Child is not a brief light. He fathers a people into a future that does not run out. He is the origin and guardian of the age He brings.
The New Testament keeps the persons clear:
No one comes to the Father except through the Son. Yet the Son is the image of the invisible God. Whoever has seen Me has seen the Father. I and the Father are one.
Everlasting Father on Isaiah’s list sits beside Mighty God. The same Child is deity and is the one who carries His children when gray hair comes—because even to your old age I am He. He is the author of eternal salvation. He is not a short reign. David’s throne is established forever in Him. Call the name with care. Worship the Son. Do not collapse Father and Son into one person. Do not shrink the title into a soft nickname. He fathers the forever.
- Avi-Ad is Father of Eternity—source and guardian of the lasting age.
- Isaiah can call the Child Mighty God and Everlasting Father in one breath.
- John will not let you merge the persons: the Son prays to the Father.
- Seeing the Son is seeing the Father’s glory, not erasing the Father.
- No end on the government is how the title shows up in history.
- He carries to gray hairs. Everlasting is pastoral, not only metaphysical.
- Author of eternal salvation is the priestly form of the same forever.

His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of His government and of peace there will be no end.
Father of Eternity—not a mix-up of persons. The Son makes the Father known. No one comes to the Father except through Him.
Whoever has seen Me has seen the Father. I and the Father are one.
Even to your old age I am He. I will carry and will save.
He became the source of eternal salvation. He always lives to make intercession. I am alive forevermore.
Do not flatten the Trinity to keep the title. Do not empty the title to keep the Trinity tidy. The Child fathers a people into a kingdom with no last chapter. Trust the Son. The forever is His.
