Firstfruits teach us that what God begins, He finishes. The first sheaf of the harvest was a pledge that the rest of the crop would follow. In the same way, Christ’s resurrection as firstfruits is God’s pledge that all who belong to Him will be raised. The Spirit given to believers is the firstfruits of the full inheritance still to come. We ourselves are a kind of firstfruits of His new creation. Therefore we live with confidence: the first portion has already been offered, and the full harvest is certain. Offer the first and best to God in every area of life, and rest in the assurance that the same Lord who raised Jesus will also raise us and complete everything He has begun.
