A mediator is one who stands between two parties in order to reconcile them and bring them into agreement.
In Scripture, Jesus Christ is the one and only Mediator between God and humanity.
He bridges the infinite gap caused by sin, representing God to us and us to God.
Through His person and work, the broken relationship between the holy God and sinful people is restored.
Because of sin, a great separation exists between God and humanity. God is perfectly holy; people are guilty and unable to approach Him on their own. A mediator is therefore necessary — someone who can fully represent both sides and remove the barrier. The Old Testament provided partial and temporary pictures of mediation through Moses, the priests, and the sacrificial system. In the fullness of time God sent His Son, who is uniquely qualified to be the Mediator. As true God and true man, Jesus can lay His hand on both God and humanity. By His obedient life, atoning death, and ongoing intercession He brings lasting peace and access to the Father. There is no other name and no other way.

Jesus Christ is the one Mediator between God and humanity — the only One who can lay His hand on both. In Him the holiness of God and the need of sinners meet without compromise. Through His blood the barrier of sin is removed, peace is made, and access to the Father is opened forever. No other mediator is needed or permitted. The invitation of the gospel is an invitation to come to God through the Son, the one Mediator who gave Himself as a ransom for all and who now lives to intercede for all who draw near to God through Him. In Christ, the distant God has come near, and the way into His presence stands open.
