The Two Blind Men are the pair who followed Jesus from a ruler’s house crying,
Have mercy on us,
Son of David.
When He entered the house,
the blind men came to Him.
Do you believe that I am able to do this?
They said to Him, Yes, Lord.
He touched their eyes, saying,
According to your faith be it done to you.
Their eyes were opened.
See that no one knows it.
But they went away and spread His fame through all that district.
Matthew will later tell of two more at Jericho.
This is the first pair
—
mercy asked,
ability confessed,
eyes opened in a house.
A girl has just sat up. A woman with a twelve-year flow has gone in peace. Two blind men trail Him with a royal title the crowds are still tasting. Son of David is not small talk. It is Messiah on a beggar’s schedule. He lets them follow as far as the house, then asks the question Bartimaeus will answer with a request for sight: Do you believe that I am able? Yes, Lord. Touch. According to your faith. Opened eyes. The charge to keep still is the same tension Mark knows—glory leaks. They talk anyway. The fame runs the district. Matthew loves twos in this chapter: two demoniacs later on the shore in his telling, two blind men here. Witnesses. A second Jericho pair will cry the same name when He is heading up to the cross. The title does not get cheaper with reuse. Faith here is fastened to His ability, not to their volume alone. The house that just saw a child raised now sees light enter two faces. Son of David is already at work before the city sings it from the road.
Have mercy on us, Son of David.
Do you believe that I am able to do this? Yes, Lord.
He touched their eyes. According to your faith be it done to you. Their eyes were opened.
See that no one knows about it. They spread His fame through all that district.
The Lord opens the eyes of the blind. Hosanna to the Son of David.
Do not wait for the Palm Sunday crowd to use the name. Follow as far as the house. Answer the question. Yes, Lord—He is able. Receive the touch. If He opens your eyes, you will talk. Let the fame be His, not a secret you were never going to keep.
