Smyrna is one of the seven cities Jesus addresses in Asia.
A church with no rebuke.
He knows their works.
He who has an ear,
let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.
Smyrna is a city before it is a symbol. Jesus tells John to write and send to the church there. The letter to Smyrna is the study of what He said. Jesus knows their poverty and says they are rich. He tells them not to fear what they are about to suffer. The wound in the letter is tribulation, poverty, and a crown of life.
Revelation 2 holds the words. The city is not a code that replaces them.
Smyrna is a real city.
The letter is His word to the church there.
Hear what the Spirit says to the churches.
Send it to the seven churches, to Smyrna.
I know your works.
He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.
Read the letter He sent to this city. Do not turn the city into a symbol that skips His words.
